This super-popular striking succulent adds effortless colour to a waterwise border, and a bright dramatic accent to any frost-free garden. It looks more like a coral reef than a plant, with long tapering stems glowing orange-red in sunshine.

Fire sticks do not normally need any maintenance once established, and are used extensively here and in California for street landscaping. They do have a sap that can produce strong skin reactions. If you have rambunctious children that may break the plant, bear this in mind.
