The OG snake plant, long and lean, edged with bright yellow stripes up each leaf. Snake plants are ridiculously easy to look after, ideal for busy (or neglectful) gardeners and first-time plant parents.
Plant these outside in a frost-free garden and they might storm through your borders like the Russian army; in a pot they're super well-behaved and will give you new plants for free each time you repot.
Sansevieria trifasciata variegated - snake plant, mother in law's tongue
APPEARANCE : Easy care tropical plant that grows rosette clusters of long slender upright leaves. Variegated is green with darker green markings and yellow edges to the leaves. Those taxonomists have been at it again and reclassified snake plants as Dracaena. We'll carry on calling them Sansevieria for now.USE FOR: Ornamental plant ideal in well lit areas indoors. Subtropical gardens; good for beginner gardeners, busy gardeners.
CLIMATE : Protect plants from frost.
PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in pots or out in the garden. Suited to full sun and part shade; colours are enhanced in bright, filtered conditions. Plants multiply sideways by root runners under favourable conditions, so if you want your plants restricted, plant them into a pot and plant the pot.
CARE: Allow soil to dry completely between watering. Fertilise during spring with an organic liquid feed mixed at half rate. If potted plants become crowded as pups develop, remove young plants and share with neighbours or re-pot.
HEIGHT: 30-50cm H
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
