Take a trip to the beach and you might spot this plant busily knitting together the sliding sand dunes - giving it the other common name of shoreline purslane.
It's found around the world at tidal flats and salt marshes, and foraged for its salty edible leaves, high in vitamin C. Eat them raw, lightly steamed, or pickled as the Filipinos do.
A great plant for adventurous gourmets, seaside gardeners, and ancient mariners suffering from scurvy.
