Mel has excellent taste in daisies, as this herbaceous perennial is covered in big purple-blue fringed flowers through spring-summer, and sometimes again in autumn.

Mel's Blue will grow in most light garden soils, loves sun, and in the wild you'll find it in wetlands and moist ditches from Florida to North Carolina - so it should love the warm humidity of our east coast.

Stokesia laevis 'Mel's Blue' - stokes aster
APPEARANCE
: Daisy-like purple-blue flowers in spring-summer cover a soft-leaved herbaceous perennial. Evergreen in warmer climates. Mel's Blue has much larger flowers than the species form, and more slender leaves.
ORIGIN : East coast USA from Florida and Louisiana to North Carolina.
USE FOR : Potted colour, flowering beds, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens.
CLIMATE :Frost tolerant, heat tolerant, humidity tolerant.
PLANTING : Plant in well-drained light soil in full sun for maximum flowering. Loves a moist soil or creekside location in summer, so long as the soil isn't cold and wet in winter.
CARE : Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Clip over the bushes after flowering to encourage a second flush of blooms and prevent self-seeding.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 30-50cm H x 20-30cm W.
