Dampiera linearis - kangaroo lobelia
APPEARANCE: Native compact shrub with an upright habit, grey-green foliage, and the brightest blue flowers in spring-summer. Native to WA but happy in any well-drained sheltered location in most of Australia.
USES: Groundcover, mass planting, and rockery planting. Needs good drainage. Suited to container planting in locations where the garden soil isn't free draining. Will regrow after fire.
PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in a partly shaded location, dappled sunlight is perfect. Mulch after planting to retain moisture and regulate soil temperatures as the young plant establishes. Tolerates frost and dry conditions once established; will grow in clay or sandy soils.
CARE: An application of a native slow release fertiliser in spring will help keep the plant healthy.
