New and exclusive to Australian Plants Online - First time to market

Say hello to our little Sprite!

The native water gum is a gorgeous evergreen tree with vibrant new leaf colour, yellow nectar-rich flowers, chocolate stems, bright white bark, and a small street-friendly size.

But we know not every gardener has the space even for a small tree. Perhaps you only have room for a low hedge, or a potted plant.

Brand new Sprite is perfect for you - it only grows to around a metre or two, and is dense and bushy all year. The new leaves have handsome coppery shades.

It's altogether a very attractive plant that wildlife will love too - and developed by our former Nursery Production Manager Ben Cook!

Note : Sprite has a PBR royalty fee which we pay to the breeder, which is why it is more expensive . You can find out more about Plant Breeders Rights (PBR) here

Tristaniopsis laurina 'Sprite' PBR intended - dwarf water gum

APPEARANCE : Dwarf form of the native water gum tree, also related to QLD brush box (Lophostemon). Bold dark green leaves, coppery-orange when young, dark brown stems, mottled white bark, yellow flowers. Sprite is much more compact at almost a tenth of the height, and with smaller denser foliage, than the species form. Slow growing at first until established. Bred by Ben Cook.
USE FOR : Hedging, feature plant, native gardens, in sensory gardens, wildlife gardens.
CLIMATE : Will tolerate light frost and short drought spells but better if in a frost-free spot
PLANTING : Plant in full sun or part shade, in rich moist loam with regular rain or irrigation for best results; though will grow in clay or sandy soil.
CARE : Mulch with chunky mulch and water regularly until the plant is established. Prune lightly as required to promote new growth and fertilise using a slow release native fertiliser autumn and spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 1 - 1.5m H x 0.5 - 1m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
