Tulbaghia violacea variegated- society garlic
DESCRIPTION: Evergreen perennial lily related to the garlic, with strappy foliage. Each leaf has a white stripe along the edge. Ornamental plant with showy lilac flowers during the warmer months, ideal used as a bordering plant.
USE IN: Borders, as a ground cover and in rockeries. Also suited to container planting. Leaves and flowers are edible and may be used to replace chives or spring onions in salads.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden. Hardy and drought tolerant but will thrive in moist conditions. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Fertilise during spring, divide at this time also to allow the plant better access to nutrients. Plant rhizomes elsewhere in the garden, it's a great way to grow your garden!
