Indigofera australis - Austral indigo

DESCRIPTION: Attractive evergreen shrub featuring clusters of vivid mauve-pink pea flowers that contrast beautifully against its smooth blue-green foliage. Grows with an open habit. Flowers late winter and spring. 
USES: Plant as a feature, informal hedge or try training over retaining walls for a beautiful result. The flowers attract native birds too!
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to lightly shaded location in soil which is free draining. Will tolerate most soil conditions. Add some well composted manure when planting and follow up yearly with a slow release native fertiliser. 
CARE: Water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Trim lightly after flowering to encourage a neat, compact growth habit, regular tip pruning while young will encourage a more rounded habit. Avoid cutting into old wood. Tolerates drought once established and is frost hardy. Boost with liquid fertiliser following extremely hot or dry conditions for best results.
