Abutilon Waltz - Chinese lantern
The hanging bells of abutilon will add a party feeling to your garden - and the golden bells of Waltz ring out almost year round in sheltered spots and mild climates. It's a little more compact than our white and pink abutilons and a great height for informal privacy hedges.
Abutilon x hybridum 'Waltz' - Chinese lantern, flowering maple, Chinese bellflower
APPEARANCE : Leggy herbaceous shrub related to hollyhock and mallow. Bell-shaped hanging yellow flowers in cooler months, with a copper-red calyx (the bit that holds the petals to the stalk). Soft pale leaves that look like those of maple trees.
USE FOR : Indoors, pots and containers, feature shrub, informal screening.
PLANTING : Plant in full sun to maximise flowering, will tolerate shade positions but will flower less. Happy in any well-draining light soil. Mulch and water on a regular basis, until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Protect from frost with extra mulch.
CARE: Clip to shape if growing as a screen. Fertilise using a slow release fertiliser after flowering to encourage healthy growth. Prune hard in spring to promote new growth.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 1.8m H x 1.8m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
