A forsythia bush in full flower is an explosion of golden yellow, completely covering the bush. The rest of the year it's a nondescript leggy green, but for those two weeks in early spring, it's a miracle.

Forsythia x intermedia 'Lynwood Gold'

APPEARANCE : Vigorous deciduous shrub with an upright habit. Four petalled starry bright lemon-yellow flowers cover the branches in early spring, usually before the leaves emerge.
USE FOR:  Borders and feature planting. Dramatic winter-spring colour
PLANTING : Plant in full sun to part shade. tolerates almost any soil type. Frost hardy. Respond well to pruning, and can even be topiarised.
CARE : Mulch and water well while new plants are establishing. After flowering, prune flowering stems back to a lower side shoot. On mature shrubs cut back one in five stems to ground level at this time. Apply a slow release fertiliser after pruning.
