Cleome hassleriana 'Helen Campbell' - spider flower

DESCRIPTION: Tall annual with nandina-like foliage and large white flower clusters. Long slender seedpods appear from the base of the flowers in autumn. Really loved by beneficial pollinators such as honeybees and butterflies. RHS Award of Garden Merit
PLANTING: Sow seeds directly into final position at 20C or above, cover and keep moist. They like it warm and humid to germinate so your sowing window may vary. Sow autumn or spring in tropical regions; sow any time in early spring in cold regions as seeds won't germinate until the soil is warm enough. Plant in acid to neutral soil in full sun for best flowering.
CARE: Water seedlings regularly until established and continue to provide water especially during dry spells. Plants are slow to start but once they do, they flower for a long time. Mulch plants to keep the shallow roots cool in summer. For an extra long flowering season, remove spent blooms and feed with liquid fertiliser.
