A literal twist on the lipstick vine, curly lipstick plant looks like it's had hair rollers in, ready for a night on the tiles. Each leaf is neatly curled under to form long trailing stems of ringlets, and each stem has little red lipstick-shaped flowers pretty much all through the year in the right conditions. This one really deserves a nice hanging pot to show off its new hairdo! We love curly lipstick plant for the fun curly leaves, bright flowers, trailing stems
Aeschynanthus radicans Red - curly lipstick plant, lipstick vine
APPEARANCE : This is a compact trailing plant with dark green curled leaves rolled back towards the stem; and narrow, small, dark red tubular flowers produced almost continuously in spring and summer and intermittently through the year.USE IN: Indoors in pots and hanging baskets; outside in tropical and subtropical gardens as shady underplanting groundcover.
PLANTING: Needs a warm frost-free position, over 5C at least, avoid direct hot sunlight. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: For best results provide plenty of bright, filtered light; if flowering is sparse move the plant to somewhere brighter. Water regularly. Add some all-purpose slow-release fertiliser at the beginning of spring and summer to keep the plant flowering well.
HEIGHT & WIDTH:30cm H x 30cm W.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide. Your plants may be supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on. You can see an example in the image gallery
