Large native understory shrub, windbreak, re-vegetation plant found in bushland from VIC to QLD. Tolerant to light frost and drought once established; and apparently happy growing beneath gum trees. The bright lime starry flowers become clusters of papery brown or purple seedpods. Host plant for fiery jewel butterflies

Dodonaea triquetra - common hop bush

APPEARANCE : Large open shrub with long leaves; starry lime green flowers followed by clusters of papery seedpod fruits that are pale brown to purple.
ORIGIN : VIC, NSW, QLD in eucalypt or mixed bushland forest
USE FOR: Butterfly and wildlife gardens, native gardens, soil erosion control, revegetation pioneer plant, windbreak hedge.
CLIMATE : Drought tolerant once established.
PLANTING:Sun or shade in almost any fre-draining soil.
CARE: Mulch and water well until established. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser during spring - Dodonaea can be phosphorus-sensitive so the P ratio of the fertiliser needs to be under 3%.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 2-3m H x 2m W.
