APPEARANCE : Dwarf evergreen shrub, neat and rounded in outline, with small slender pointed dark green leaves, and abundant rounded white flower clusters with a pale lilac-pink blush, which appear at the end of the stems from spring to early autumn. Auckland Botanic Garden reports their hebes flowering in late winter.
USE FOR : >Feature shrub, potted colour, low hedge, wildlife garden.
LOCATION : Moist, free-draining soil in sun or shade. Tolerates light overnight frost, salt spray, sea breezes. Doesn't tolerate hot tropical climates, drying out, or cold wet heavy soil.
CARE : Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Prune tips while young to encourage dense growth and fertilise in early spring and every other month through summer. Lightly prune all over each year after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth - hebes don't like hard pruning.
