The cutest little pocket-sized plant for shady places, Blue Mouse Ears forms a neat clump of blue-green leaves that produce spires of pretty purple flowers in summer. It's small enough for hanging baskets and patio pots too!

This one has the RHS Award of Garden Merit and Hosta of the Year Award 2008, which is a lot of prize for a little plant. Rock-sold cold hardy; keep it moist in hot spells.

Hosta tardiana hybrid 'Blue Mouse Ears'

APPEARANCE: Mostly grown for their foliage, hostas are attractive herbaceous perennials with a range of leaf shape and form. Blue Mouse Ears is a particularly dwarf variety with blue-green leaves and clusters of lilac flowers in summer.
USE FOR : Hostas grow best in dappled shade. Front of border, under trees, potted colour, hanging baskets as this is a very short variety even in flower.
CLIMATE : Frost hardy
PLANTING: Plant in a sheltered position, avoid direct afternoon sunlight. Happy in sand, clay, and loam acid to neutral soils; enrich soils before planting with plenty of organic matter. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks, and water during growth.
CARE: Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring and a liquid based fertiliser monthly during flowering to maintain plant health.
