Lechenaultia Big Blue
This plant's walk-on song is the sound of angels singing Gregorian chants accompanied by heralds' trumpets. The colour is astonishing, the blue of Mary's cloak in Medieval icon paintings, the blue of a cloudless summer sky.
Fair warning, it s not that heavenly to look after out of its wild WA home. It does not like humidity. Even in perfect conditions individual plants can be shortlived. Plant it in a pot of very free-draining potting mix, give it plenty of air around, and pray to your god/dess of choice for good luck.

Lechenaultia biloba 'Big Blue'
APPEARANCE: Compact native shrubby short-lived perennial with vivid deep blue to mid blue flowers winter-spring, each with two petals at the top and three at the bottom. Native to WA where it tends to appear in abundance after bushfires. The species form is very variable; Big Blue is (paradoxically) more compact and a deeper blue.
USES: Xeriscaping and waterwise gardens, rockery planting. Suited to container planting in locations where the garden soil isn't free draining.
PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in full sun and an airy location. Needs good drainage. Tolerates light frost and drought once established.
CARE: An application of a native slow release fertiliser in spring will help keep the plant healthy. Water very sparingly, especially in more humid climates.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 30 cm H x 50 cm W and up.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
