Lycoris red - spider lily -bulbs
In its native lands this gorgeous lily bursts into flower seemingly out of nowhere, after heavy rains. One day there's nothing to see, the next day a field of curly scarlet lilies in bloom.
No wonder it has a suite of fairytale names - hurricane lily, resurrection lily, magic lily. Magical indeed.
Pack of 1 bulb
Lycoris radiata red - spider lily, hurricane lily, resurrection lily, magic lily, higanbana
APPEARANCE : Smooth stems topped with a dense cluster of red flowers appear after rains. Long distinctive stamens stand proud of the petals.
USE FOR : Plant in a rockery, grassy slope, or group closely in pots for bright flowering colour.
CLIMATE : Frost-free.
CARE : Once planted, water the soil to set the bulb in place. Water and feed fortnightly once the flower spike appears and the leaves emerge. Once flowering is finished stop watering and leave plants to die back, it's not the prettiest sight but don't be tempted to trim the yellowing foliage. The nutrients are being drawn back into the bulbs for next year. When the bulbs die back completely remove spent foliage, mulch to keep cool in very hot locations, and leave in place for next season. Or remove for storage - gently dig up bulbs, wash soil away using water and a soft brush for stubborn spots. Place bulbs in a cool shady spot to dry, then store in a dark, well ventilated room. Paper bags are ideal, remember to label each variety!
