This green ball, covered in long silver spines, can turn into a cylinder up to 50cm high - not the biggest of cactuses but pretty impressive for an indoor plant! Keep this one in sun and temps over 10C, and it might reward you with big satiny yellow flowers

Parodia scopa, Notocactus scopa - silver ball, snowball cactus
APPEARANCE : Globe cactus that can grow into a tall fat cylinder, light green and covered with white or blonde spines which give its common name. 'Scopa' means a broom, referring to the long spines. Happy mature plants can produce large starry satin flowers, usually cream-yellow. RHS Award of Garden Merit.ORIGIN : Native to Uruguay
USE FOR : Waterwise garden landscaping, indoors, pots and containers.
CLIMATE : Frost tender, keep above 10C, drought hardy
PLANTING : Grow in any free-draining loam or sandy soil, or cacti-specific potting mix. Site in full sun or bright light. Water in summer growing period, allow to dry out a little between watering; keep almost dry in winter.
CARE : Needs very little aftercare. Remove dead flowers. Repot when it gets too large for the pot.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH : to 50cm H x 10cm + W.
