Red Robin's tall dark cousin, new Black Jack has glossy maroon leaf colour, bigger leaves, and bigger mature height than Red Robin. He's a handsome easygoing fella you can use for hedging or as a feature plant. We love Black Jack for his unusual dark colour, taller mature height, adaptability to most conditions
Photinia robusta x serraluta 'Black Jack' PBR
APPEARANCE: Tall evergreen hedging shrub with deep maroon coloured new growth that eventually ages to green.
Clusters of white flowers in spring if plants are left unclipped, followed by red berries.
USES: Ideal for hedging and privacy screening. Can be clipped to desired size which will produce more coloured leaves.
PLANTING: Plant in full sun to part shaded in the garden, mulch and water well until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Suited to most soil types, frost hardy and drought tolerant once established. Grows in any soil, faster growing on free-draining light soils and more compact on clay.
CARE: Prune after flowering to promote dense growth and colour. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 3 - 4 m H x 3 - 4 m W, can be trimmed to as low as 1m, but other Photinias grower shorter naturally.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
