It's velvety soft like a baby rabbit, and irresistibly strokeable. The furry foliage has a shimmery grey colour that looks gorgeous against brighter showier flowers.
It loves poor dry soils. If you've ever thought of your plant as pets, then this is the plant for you.
Stachys lanata, Stachys byzantina - lamb's ear
APPEARANCE : Furry-leaved low-growing perennial - "lanata" means woolly - silver all year round. Purple-pink flower spikes in summer are attractive to pollinators.USE FOR : Mixed borders, baskets, as a contrast underplanting to flowering plants.
PLANTING : Plant in well drained soil in full sun. Frost hardy and drought tolerant once established. Does not like humidity because of its furry leaves.
CARE : Will only need seasonal maintenance to remove dead flower stalks.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 10 - 50 cm H x 0.5 - 1 m W.
