Best in subtropical or warm climates with regular rainfall, though these trees will come through a light frost once mature. Meredith in the Latrobe Valley VIC on our Facebook page says she is

"not very far from the snowfields- I have planted two they are doing really well. I believe they won’t get anywhere as large as their tropical cousins."

Note : in the winter months you may see slight colour change on some of the leaves; this is a natural response to the cold and does not affect the health of your plant.

Backhousia citriodora - lemon scented myrtle

APPEARANCE : Fresh lemon scented foliage with small fluffy white flowers in clusters. Grows as a tree in subtropical climates, and a shrub in cooler ones. These plants are cuttings-grown.
ORIGIN : Native to subtropical QLD from the border up to Mackay.
USE FOR : Beautiful in native gardens to attract bird-life. Suitable for large containers when pruned regularly.
CLIMATE : Tolerates light frost once established. Prefers a sheltered position in the garden.
PLANTING : This native shrub is best grown in full sun. Plant in free draining soil rich in organic matter.  A potting mix rich with peat moss or humus is ideal.
CARE : Mulch and water well, prune and fertilise after flowering to promote compact growth. Water well during dry conditions. Easy to maintain.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 2-8m H x 4-6m W in sunny garden sites. May reach up to 20 metres in its natural shady habitat.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
