Faster-growing melicope (euodia) with darker red-pink flowers along the branches, and a straighter-growing habit. Native birds love the nectar-rich blossoms, which you can enjoy too even while the tree is very young. Well-behaved adaptable variety ideal for frost-free suburban gardens.
Enjoy watching nectar-feeding wildlife flock to the garden : pink euodia is a natural host for the beautiful blue Ulysses butterfly, orchard swallowtail, and many other native species.
Melicope rubra 'Blush' - red euodia
APPEARANCE : Australian native subtropical tree with evergreen foliage and clusters of butterfly- and bird-attracting pink-red flowers. M. rubra 'Blush' has darker flowers than M.elleryana and a straighter habit, with a little more resilience to urban garden conditions.USE FOR : Plant as a feature or screening tree, plants have a shallow root system making them them ideal for street-scaping. Lovely for native and wildlife gardens
CLIMATE : Resilient to coastal, windy, cool or tropical climates. Protect from frost
PLANTING : Plant in sun or shade in rich free-draining soil.
CARE: Mulch when planting and provide regular water until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Will respond well to yearly fertilising using a slow release native fertiliser in Spring. Pruning is not required but can be done to maintain a more compact form.
