Archontophoenix cunninghamiana - Bangalow palm, piccabean

APPEARANCE : Tall fast-growing native rainforest palm with bright deep green leaves and a slender grey trunk with a slight 'belly' bulge. The fronds have a half-twist so the leaves lay horizonal next to the trunk and vertical at the tips. Tails of pale pink flowers hang in clusters and produce red berry fruits that attract birds.
ORIGIN : Native to the east coast of Australia from Mackay QLD to Batemans Bay NSW. Grows in moist swampy soils and creek banks in the wild.
USE FOR : Tropical gardens to create a canopy. Feature plant.  Not suited to pots.
CLIMATE : Tolerates cool conditions. Protect from frost.
PLANTING :  Plant in free draining soil; it will even grow in sand although it appreciates a more nutrient rich soil. Mature palms can stand full sun but growing palms benefit from some shade. Site carefully with mature height in mind as it doesn't like being moved.
CARE: Mulch and water well, keep water up to these palms during dry spells; this palm thrives in subtropical rainforest with regular and often heavy rainfall.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH: 20 m H x 6 m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
