Compact garden-friendly form of Callistemon pallidus, smaller all-around and with a soft colour palette. Happy in clay soils, coastal gardens, soggy spots - and if you struggle with bottlebrush frost-hardiness, give this one a try. It's reputed to be more cold-tolerant than most.

Callistemon pallidus, Melaleuca pallida' Silver Cloud' - lemon bottlebrush

APPEARANCE :  Bushy native shrub with silvery-grey foliage, plum-coloured new leaf growth; golden-yellow fragrant small bottlebrush-shaped flowers in spring-summer. Silver Cloud is about 2/3 the size overall of the parent species form C. pallidus, which occurs in the wild from TAS along to VIC and up to southern QLD.
USE IN: In native gardens, wildlife gardens, coastal landscapes. Perfect for informal native hedging .
LOCATION: Plant in well drained soil, preferably neutral to acid pH, in full sun to part shade in the garden. Happy in clay; and the parent plant grows in wet locations. Frost tolerant once established.
CARE:  Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Prune after flowering and apply a slow release native fertiliser to promote healthy leaf and prolific blooms during the next flowering season. Give it a clip all over after flowering to shape the plant and encourage new growth.
