One of the pleasures of a subtropical garden is plucking fresh sweet fruit straight from the tree. Imagine fresh orange juice for breakfast! Turn the peel into marmalade! Beekeepers - let your bees feed on the sweet-scented blossom to make fragrant honey for breakfast toast!

And if you live somewhere that gets a little frost in winter, citrus plants like oranges will grow happily in large pots while small, for moving indoors during colder months.

Citrus x sinensis - sweet orange

APPEARANCE : Tall thorny tree with deep green glossy leaves, small scented white blossoms, large smooth-skinned sweet orange fruits in abundance. Self-fertile. These plants are seed-grown.
USE FOR : Feature planting, orchards and kitchen gardens, privacy hedging. Edible fruit, and blossoms that can be made into herbal tea.
CLIMATE : Needs a temperature over 5C and a temperature change between summer and winter for best fruiting. Very heat tolerant.
PLANTING : Plant in full sun and well drained soil; they do not like getting their roots wet. Will grow in fairly alkaline soils but alkaline water may cause yellowing of the leaves; treat with citrus-specific plant food if this occurs.
CARE : Prune to desired height if necessary; any seasonal pests can be treated with eco-oil or similar.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH :  9 m x 3 m.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
