You'll either love it or hate it - and this one has some big fans in our nursery!

It's unique, a tangled mass of soft green barbed wire on cherry-red stems. The flowers are long, tapering, sliding from egg-yok to egg-white - and cover the bush in full flower in the cooler months. They appear at the ends of the branches and point upwards, the better for you to appreciate them.

Note : Our intricatas are grafted grevilleas, unlike most of our other varieties. Grafting joins the main plant to another, more robust or adaptable, rootstock. This means it will grow in a wider range of soil types. Read more here

Grevillea intricata

APPEARANCE : Native WA shrub varying hugely in size depending on growing conditions. Leaves are reduced to narrow stems, and grow at contrasting angles from the branches. Bark is bright red. Slender conical white flowers tipped in lemon yellow at the end of the branches in autumn-spring.
ORIGIN :Geraldton Sandplains and Kalbarri NP, Western Australia
USE FOR :  Growing something the neighbours won't have. Autumn-winter colour. Wildlife gardens, native gardens.
CLIMATE: Heat and drought tolerant once established. Reports suggest it might come through a light frost to -5C so test this out yourself.
PLANTING: Plant in full sun for maximum flowering. Prefers free draining sandy soil. Note : this is a grafted grevillea, unlike our other varieties. This means it will grow in a wider range of soil types. The tape securing the graft point is biodegradable and should dissolve by the time the graft is complete.
CARE: Water regularly during the first 8-12 weeks until the plant is established. Prune after flowering to promote flowering, dense habit and control growth. A hard prune each 3-4 years will result in a fresh flush of flowers and foliage.  Feed with a slow release native fertiliser when buds form - grevilleas can be phosphorus-sensitive so the P ratio of the fertiliser needs to be under 3%.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 0.5-3m H x 0.5-3m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
