Description

Kunzea baxteri 'Persian Pink'

APPEARANCE: WA native, like a leggy open Callistemon, with very small neat leaves and unusual pink bottlebrush-like flowers mainly in spring . This genus has been classified under Leptospermum, Metrosideros, and now Kunzea. Maybe, like the Callistemon, this Kunzea will next be renamed a Melaleuca by taxonomists to simplify things? The differences are apparent only to the keenest eye.
USE FOR : Large bush for informal hedging and borders, native and wildlife gardens.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in very free-draining soil in the garden. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Prefers dry sandy soil and a dry coastal climate but may grow in subtropical gardens in richer free-draining soils. Should come through a light frost once established and mature.
CARE: Water during prolonged dry spells. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring, and seaweed solution seasonally.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 2.5m H x 2.5 m W.
