Dense, bushy, upright, evergreen, fragrant, frost hardy, showy in winter flower - this one's got the goods! And if your climate is too cold for the tender O. fragrans and O. burkwoodii, this is the one to choose.

The deep green leaves are arranged evenly spaced in pairs along the stems, with the scented white flowers clutered around them, like diamonds on a necklace.

The first of these plants originated from a single seed smuggled out of China and sent to France by a Jesuit missionary. Now we can just click, shop, plant, and enjoy their beauty!

Osmanthus delavayi 'Heaven Sent' - fragrant tea olive

APPEARANCE : Native to China, this scented flowering shrub has an upright bushy growth habit and small evergreen leaves; Heaven Sent's leaves are larger than the species form and with smoother edges. Abundant tiny fragrant creamy-white flowers from late winter to early spring. The flowers are more showy than O. fragrans but not as highly scented. One of the parents of O. burkwoodii. RHS Award of Garden Merit
USE FOR: Very versatile slow growing shrub. Suited to hedging and topiary, sensory gardens, feature plant.
CLIMATE : Should come through hard frost once established, surviving to -15C.
PLANTING: Plant in well drained soil in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden. Grows in clay, chalk, sand or loam. Site it where you can enjoy the rich sweet fruity scent.
CARE: Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Protect from hard frost when young. Prune as required after flowering to maintain shape, and fertilise with a slow release fertiliser in spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: Up to 4 m H slowly x 2 m W.
