One of the first red and black salvias, and still one of the most popular, Crimson & Black is a great heat tolerant herbaceous perennial for front of border, cottage gardens, pots on the deck. It's bushy, green, and generous with its dramatically-bright flowers over a long season.

Salvia greggii 'Crimson & Black' - Mexican sage

APPEARANCE: Compact flowering sage native to Texas and Mexico, with scarlet flowers set in black calyces (the bit that attaches the petals to the stem) in summer-autumn.
USE IN: Cottage style gardens, mixed beds and borders, wildlife gardens, pots and tubs.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden, in light free-draining soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Cut back after flowering, to encourage fresh growth and more flowers. Fertilise in spring using a slow release fertiliser, give an extra boost during the summer heat using eco-seaweed. Tolerant of overnight frost once established. Protect from hard frost and mulch in winter to keep soil warm.
