Perfectly petite little native for wildlife lovers. If you like the dwarf banksia Birthday Candles (and we know you do, as we have a huge wait list for it when it sells out) you're going to love Cherry Candles. The flower spikes are almost twice as tall, giving you twice the colour, and the local birdlife twice the feeding opportunities. It's ideal for planting front-of-border too, as it loves to grow low and flat. See the image gallery for a side-by-side of Cherry Candles flowers (left) and Birthday Candles (right).

Banksia spinulosa 'Cherry Candles' PBR

APPEARANCE : Australian native dwarf shrub with a dense compact habit, very low and and flat. Long slender green candles open into cylindrical golden-yellow and red flowers in summer and winter, tall for the size of the plant at around 12cm, and standing proud of the foliage.
USE FOR : Coastal gardens, wildlife gardens, rockeries, mass groundcover plantings, and in pots and containers.
PLANTING : Plant in a light well-drained soil in a sunny position for best flowering. Suits acid to mildly alkaline soils and is able to tolerate frost and salt spray. Low water needs once established.
CARE : Prune as required after flowering to maintain dense growth. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser during spring - Banksia are phosphorus-sensitive so the P ratio of the fertiliser needs to be under 3%. Leaves may yellow in very alkaline soils, but plants are happy grown in pots if this is the case in your garden.
HEIGHT & WIDTH :  40 - 50 cm H x 50 - 60 cm W
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide. You can see an example in the image gallery
