This new iridescent blood-red and green-black begonia is hopefully named for the beautiful shimmery South American inca hummingbird, and not for the Inca civilisation's human sacrifices... Grow this one indoors, or outdoors in a frostfree garden. Beleaf begonias are bushy and compact, healthy and low maintenance, and grow faster than traditional Begonia rex varieties.

Begonia Beleaf 'Inca Night'®

DESCRIPTION: Exotic foliage plant with large heart-shaped textured leaves, vibrantly patterned. 'Inca Night' has mature purplish-red foliage with thick deep green, almost black borders. The colour will develop as the plant grows. 'Beleaf' Begonias are new varieties bred in the Netherlands by Berghoef Plants.
USES: Popular houseplant in warm humid rooms. Striking hanging basket or container plant for summer. Ideal outdoor underplanting in shaded and semi-shaded tropical gardens.
PLANTING: Plant in a shaded or semi-shaded location with filtered light or indirect sunlight. Begonia rex appreciates a humid atmosphere so if the air is dry, give it a light mist spray with water..
CARE: Water lightly but regularly during the first 12 weeks or until the plant is established. Avoid over-watering or over-feeding Begonia rex. Apply liquid fertiliser at half dilution every 8 weeks for best results. Foliage may die back during the cooler months when plants become dormant. Avoid feeding and reduce watering until plants develop new leaves. Repot during spring only if plants become rootbound. Protect from frost.

YOUR PLANTS: These plants are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide. May be supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on. You can see an example in the image gallery
