Eucalyptus sideroxylon Rosea - red-flowered ironbark
This nectar-rich native gum is frost hardy and drought tolerant; will grow in poor dry shallow soils, occasionally soggy clay soils, and windy sites; and thrives in the wild from VIC to QLD. Altogether a very useful garden tree!
As if that weren't enough to recommend it, the leaves are a lovely green-blue, the bark a deep dark burnt-brown, and from summer to winter it is decorated with large bright red-pink tassel flowers like ballerina tutus. It's also a favourite of swift parrots and musk lorikeets.
If you have the space, it's a definite yes.
