Stenocarpus sinuatus - firewheel tree
APPEARANCE : Australian native tree, tall and slender, with glossy ornate wavy lobed leaves and showy wheel-shaped flowers in summer-autumn. Perfect for feature planting and streetscapes.USE FOR : Excellent for screening or as a specimen tree. Create a shady spot in the garden and enjoy watching the wildlife visit.
CLIMATE : Grows well in Melbourne and southern QLD. Tolerates a light overnight frost once mature.
PLANTING: Plant in well drained soil in full sun. Plant in a sheltered location out of strong wind. Apply mulch and continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Tip prune while young to encourage a smaller dense rounded shape, or leave to grow tall and open. Fertilise using native fertiliser yearly.
HEIGHT: Usually 10 metres in full sun: up to 30 m in a warm shaded spot.
