Gaillardia Goblin - blanket flower - seed
Gaillardia Goblin - blanket flower
DESCRIPTION: Bushy annual/perennial from the American prairies, with daisy flowers marked in rings of orange, red and gold. Flowers over a long summer-autumn season are loved by beneficial pollinators (good nectar flowers for honeybees), seedheads loved by birds. Makes a good cut flower for the home.
SOWING: Sow direct seeds in late summer-autumn in frost-free areas; or in seed trays/pots indoors, and keep moist. Thin plants once they develop 2-4 leaves and are easily handled. Plant in free draining sandy soil for best flowering, but generally unfussy. If planted early they will flower in the same year.
CARE: Water seedlings regularly until established and continue to provide water especially during dry spells. Mulch plants to keep the shallow roots cool in summer. For an extra long flowering season, remove spent blooms and feed with liquid fertiliser.
