Fast growing leafy green with juicy white stems, an alternative to spinach and silverbeet, ideal for Asian recipes. Pak choi is slightly smaller with flat leaves; bok choi is a larger plant with more ruched leaves.
May be eaten raw in salads or gently steamed/stir-fried for a nutritious side dish. Plant year round in most parts of Australia. Harvest in just 6-8 weeks.

Brassica rapa var. chinensis - Pak Choi - seed

DESCRIPTION: Fast growing Asian green which may be eaten fresh in salads or gently steamed/stir-fried for a nutritious side dish.
PLANTING: Sow year-round in most parts of Australia avoiding frost in southern states. Sow seeds into seed raising mix or direct & thin to 2-3 plants at approx 5cm in height. Plant in full sun for early harvest and strong growth. Likes an alkaline or neutral soil.
USE IN: Use young leaves and stems in salads and gently steam or add mature leaves to stir-fries.
CARE: Mulch plants to retain moisture in the soil. Provide plenty of water regularly to avoid the leaves becoming bitter. For a bumper crop of fresh leafy greens apply liquid fertiliser every two weeks.
