Banksias are true blue Aussie plants, but not all of us have the space for a giant shrub. Stumpy Gold lets you fly the green-and-gold in the smallest of urban back yards, as it grows not much bigger than a dustbin lid, covered with those iconic flowers that we and our native wildlife love so much.
Banksia spinulosa x collina 'Stumpy Gold'
APPEARANCE: Compact native small groundcovering shrub with lime-yellow candles opening into honey-yellow cylindrical flowers in spring, autumn and winter, edged in dark red.USES: Year-round foliage shrub. Good weed-suppressor. Tolerates light frost and salt spray - good for southern coastal gardens. Wildlife refuge and source of nectar. Seed pods and flowers are decorative for arranging and crafts.
PLANTING: Plant in a well drained soil, neutral to acid pH, in a sunny spot for densest growth. Doesn't like wet feet; tolerates clay soils better than many other varieties.
CARE:Feed with a slow release native fertiliser during spring - Banksia paludosa is very phosphorus-sensitive so the P ratio of the fertiliser needs to be under 3%. Naturally dense and bushy but can become denser if pruned after flowering.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 50cm-1m H x 1 - 1.5m W.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide
