If you aren't familiar with the flower, you'll be attracted to the deep chocolately-red colour - 'atrosanguineus' means 'deep blood red'.

If you are familiar  with the flower, you'll know the rich colour isn't the reason it's called chocolate cosmos.

APPEARANCE : Delicate-looking herbaceous perennial from Mexico with ferny foliage and simple flowers in deep blood red-brown.
USE FOR : Cottage gardens, potted colour, mixed flower borders.
CLIMATE : Should come through a light overnight frost; protect against longer or harder cold spells by listing and storing under cover over winter, or with extra layers of autumn mulch.
PLANTING: Plant in full sun in free draining moist soil rich in organic matter. Tolerates most soil types and planting conditions.
CARE: Mulch and regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage a longer flowering season.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 0.5-1m H x 0.5-1m W.
