If you love a dark flower, you can't go past Sooty. Deepest richest maroon-burgundy flowers and dark foliage to match, this sweet William is a knockout in summer borders and a cut flower favourite. Sweet because it smells lovely, and William because - why not?
DESCRIPTION: Annual, biennial, short-lived perennial depending on how it like the conditions. Straight stems topped with feathery foliage surrounding a cluster of flat open flowers, deep maroon. Foliage has purple tints too. USE IN: Summer bedding, pots and containers, front of mixed beds. LOCATION: Plant in full sun to part shade, protect from hot afternoon sun in warm climates. Like its garden pink and carnation relatives, it likes a loamy sandy free-draining neutral soil for best results. Completely frost-hardy. CARE: Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Regular feeding promotes healthy growth; deadhead any spent flowers you haven't cut to enjoy indoors. Cut all stems back to half in autumn after flowering has finished, and add some fertiliser for a second round of blooms. HEIGHT & WIDTH: 35 cm H x 30 cm W. YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, young healthy plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide.
