Rare little mallee gum that deserves to be better known, as it's petite enough for back yards, and earns its place with colourful bark and deep pink buds that burst open into fluffy white-pink spring flowers. It grows in sandy or clay soils, is drought tolerant, and full of nectar for birds.

Eucalyptus rosacea, Eucalyptus synandra - jingymia mallee
APPEARANCE : Rare West Coast native mallee gumtree with attractive bark, grey shedding to pink-cream; clusters of deep pink buds which open into pink-cream-white flowers in spring-summer.ORIGIN : Found in the wild in the Great Victoria Desert WA, which suggests a useful level of drought tolerance.
USE FOR : Ornamental garden tree, feature shrub when coppiced (cut hard back), wildlife gardens, winter bark colour.
CLIMATE : As a WA species it prefers mild Mediterranean-climate areas of Australia with abundant sunshine, lower humidity, drier summers. Protect from strong wind and frost.
PLANTING : Grows in most free-draining soil types including clay.
CARE : Apply mulch and continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks and regularly during extended dry periods.
HEIGHT : 1 - 9m H (usually 3-4m) x 3 - 4m W varies according to conditions and water availability
