This tongue-twisting houseplant genus is well known from Sri Lanka to Borneo and Malaysia, but almost unknown elsewhere until very recently. They are elegant foliage plants for indoors or tropical gardens, with glossy heart-shaped leaves reminiscent of their cousins the Alocasia, Philodendron and Syngonium.

Sunshine Gem is unusual, as it has lime leaves rather than deep green. Homalomenas love shade, humidity, a little misting now and again to keep looking their best.

We love Homalomena Sunshine Gem for the lime-green colour, the compact size, and because it's fun to say the name
