This gorgeous tropical foliage plant grows in the shady floor of Sumatran and Malaysian jungles, amongst fallen leaves. That's a bit hard to reproduce at home, so if you water it regularly, mist it, keep it out of bright sunlight - just as with other aroids like alocasia, dieffenbachia, homalomena and philodendron - it will reward you with beautiful leaves.

We love Schismaglottis for its rarity, silvery striped leaves

Schismatoglottis wallichii - drop tongue plant

APPEARANCE : Native to Borneo, Malaysia, Thailand and Sumatra. Tropical rainforest Aroid plant with elongated green leaves marked with white to pale green. Mature plants may produce small 'pups' (young plants) at the base; and small white anthurium-like flowers
USE FOR : Ideal indoor plant for a frost-free shaded patio or indoors and interior planting schemes. Suited to underplanting in tropical style gardens.
PLANTING : Plant in a humid shady spot with bright indirect sunlight. Prefers free draining soil or a good quality potting mix; it prefers to be moist but not wet around the roots.
CARE : Water regularly during the first 12 weeks and only if soil seems dry once established. Feed using liquid fertiliser at half rate every few weeks as the plant establishes then bi-monthly. Remove the old leaves for a quick tidy up. Likes high humidity - for indoor plants regular water and a spritz on the foliage will keep them happy.
HEIGHT: 60cm H
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, young healthy plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide. May be supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on.
