Usually grown for the vitamin C-rich red fruits, this dwarf selection is also desirable for the abundant bright pink windmill flowers that lure in birds and butterflies. It's a neat compact little shrub with so much going for it, it's bound to become a favourite.

Malpighia emarginata 'Pixie' PBR - acerola

APPEARANCE : Dainty pink bird- and butterfly-attracting flowers on a compact shrub. After flowering, red fruit like miniature apples appears, very high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Related to golden chain tree (Lophanthera)
USE FOR : Grow for the nutritious fruit; hedging,feature shrub, bonsai and potted plant.
PLANTING : Plant in well draining well mulched soil in full sun to part shade. Needs it tropical to subtropical, definitely frost-free.
CARE : A light clip and slow-release fertiliser once a year will keep it looking good.
