Peace lilies are wonderful indoor plants for beginner gardeners, easygoing and easy to look after. So they get a bad rap for being a little too commonplace.
Then along comes a peace lily like this which blows that prejudice out of the water. Gorgeously slender tapering leaves are uniquely patterned in sparkling white; and pure white flowers too, throughout the year, as the plant grows.
Spathiphyllum wallisii variegated - peace lily
APPEARANCE: South American tropical understory plant with slender light green foliage patterned with silvery-white variegation. Upright flowers taper to a point, and stand above the leaves, which are slender and also taper to a point.USE FOR : Perfect indoor plant for adding a cool tropical vibe. Suited to under planting outdoors in tropical climates. Renowned for its air-cleaning properties.
PLANTING: Plant in sheltered position, avoid direct sunlight. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Protect from frost and provide plenty of water during dry periods.
CARE: Water only when soil begins to dry, gently push your finger into the soil to test for moisture. Spathiphyllum thrive in humid conditions. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring and a liquid based fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose to avoid burn. For indoor plants - wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth if you notice them collecting dust and spritz with a hand sprayer, this will refresh the foliage to it's usual glossy finish. Re-pot container plants at the beginning of spring.
