This BIG red fast-growing spreading sage is like a fiesta firework going off in your garden! Heaps of flowers in cooler months, their vibrant red petals contrasting with the dark almost-black calyx. It loves warmth but prefers its roots to be cool, so it's a great sage for mixed borders and beds where other plants can shade the soil and Tequila can grow through and get its head in the sun. Give it enough space and a sheltered spot.

Salvia gesneriiflora 'Tequila' - flowering sage

APPEARANCE: Small-leaved big shrubby perennial sage from Mexican mountains, with deep orange-red blooms, almost-black on the calyx, from late winter to early spring. The foliage is aromatic, supposedly grapefruit scented.
USE IN: Cottage style gardens, mixed beds and borders, wildlife gardens, pots and tubs.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden, in rich soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Water regularly in dry periods. A sheltered position will help keep the plant looking good.
CARE: Clip over after flowering, to encourage fresh growth and more flowers. Cut it hard back in summer, almost to the ground, when it has a rest from blooming. Fertilise in spring using a slow release fertiliser, give an extra boost during the summer heat using eco-seaweed. Protect from hard frost and mulch in winter to keep soil warm.
HEIGHT & WIDTH:  up to 3 m H x up to 3 m W.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tube-stock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide.
