Toad lilies deserve to be better known as they have so many good qualities : they flower late in the season when everything else is winding down; they flower in deep shade; and they need little maintenance apart from regular watering or moist soil.

This one is especially lovely as the purple flowers have a backdrop of gold-striped leaves. Because of the variegated leaves, this variety can stand more sun than other toad lilies, and not quite so much cold. Which suits most Aussie gardeners just fine!
