Dianthus - maiden pink - seed
Gorgeous little groundcover that loves sunny dry sites, rockeries, coastal gardens, windowboxes and baskets. It's very cold hardy too. Needs neutral to alkaline soil to thrive, like most dianthus, so test yours with a pH test first. This award winning pink is also known as lady's cushion, and we think it would be a very comfy place to rest, whatever your gender...
Dianthus deltoides - maiden pink
DESCRIPTION: Drought-hardy frost-hardy perennial from coastal cliff sites, with deep pink flowers covering neat cushions of slender foliage. Suited to rockeries, cottage gardens, seaside gardens, and pots. RHS Award of Garden Merit
PLANTING: Spring and Summer, for hotter parts of Australia winter planting is recommended. Sow seeds into pots containing seed raising mix, gently press into soil and keep moist. Thin seedlings when plants have 2-4 leaves, plant in free draining soil in a full sun location for best flowering.
CARE: Water seedlings regularly until established and continue to provide water especially during dry spells. Mulch plants to keep the shallow roots cool in summer. For an extra flush of flowers, trim lightly and feed with liquid fertiliser. Protect from frost.
