Eucalyptus macrocarpa - mottlecah, rose of the west
APPEARANCE :Distinctive West Coast native gumtree with broad spreading branches; huge leaves, huge flowers, huge gumnuts - 'macrocarpa' means big seed. Leaves are broad, pointed at the tip, silver-grey; winter-spring flowers are red filaments with yellow pollen tips, giving a powderpuff effect. Seedpods that follow are shaped like flying saucersORIGIN : Found in the wild in the south west corner of WA, and has proved very adaptable in gardens across Australia.
USE FOR : Ornamental garden tree-shrub, feature shrub when coppiced (cut hard back), wildlife gardens, for flower arranging and floristry.
CLIMATE : As a WA species it prefers mild Mediterranean-climate areas of Australia with abundant sunshine, lower humidity, drier summers. Protect from strong wind and frost.
PLANTING : Grows in most free-draining soil types.
CARE : Apply mulch and continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks and regularly during extended dry periods.
HEIGHT : 3 - 4m H x 2 - 3m W
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
