Our native species swamp grass is hugely popular so we know you're going to love this Ozbreed cultivar. It's shorter, more drought tolerant, has more slender leaves and fluffier upright flowerheads. It's happy growing almost anywhere - and almost never self-seeds - so give it a try where you can't get anything else to grow!

We love Nafray® for its fluffy flowerheads, rugged resilience, compact height

Supply Note : Nafray is propagated by division - cutting larger plants into smaller ones - rather than our usual methods of tissue culture, cuttings, and seed. We are waiting for the motherstock to become large enough to divide : we anticipate this being ready in the new year 2024.

Pennisetum alopecuroides Nafray®

APPEARANCE: Ozbreed variety. Hardy Australian native tussock grass with a finer texture, more drought tolerant, more compact than the species alopecuroides. Showy, feathery flowerheads on upright stems appear from summer to autumn. Low seed viability, reducing the chances of self-seeding.
USE FOR: Mass planting. Difficult and challenging garden locations. Suited to moist boggy soils, clay soils, poor dry soils, revegetation. Dry the flower plumes for home decor.
PLANTING : Plant in full sun to part shade. Tolerates frost, drought,, humidity.
CARE: Cut it back by a third in late autumn. Apply a controlled release fertiliser in winter after trimming to keep plants healthy. In subtropical frost-free areas with high rainfall or irrigation it may product small amounts of viable seed; if this is undesirable (eg because of nearby bushland) remove flowerheads before they set seed.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 60cm H x 60cm W.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants with young healthy roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide.
