Curcurbita pepo 'Queensland Blue' pumpkin - seed
DESCRIPTION: Fast growing groundcover vine producing large grey-green pumpkins with dense richly flavoured orange flesh.
PLANTING: Spring-Summer and Winter in warmer areas. Sow seeds directly into their final position or into seedling trays in groups of 2-3. Thin to two seedlings and transplant when seedlings are easily handled, approx 10cm. Plant in a full sun location in free draining soil. For best results prepare soil by digging through well composted manure.
USE IN: Pumpkin compliments both sweet (Pumpkin Pie & Scones) and savory dishes (Spiced Soup, Mixed Roast Veg & Damper) and can be stored in a cool dark spot for up to 6 months.
CARE: Water seedlings daily until established and follow up with regular water especially during dry periods. Apply liquid fertiliser regularly for best results.When your pumpkins start to grow, keep their bottoms dry with straw or a small paver to raise them off wet soil. Harvest when vines begin to die back.
