This little Mexican sage is full of bright vibrant colour through the warmer months until first frosts. It grows in the wild in rocky soils and hot dry places - so it should thrive in most Aussie back yards! Deep purple-black buds open to magenta purple flowers.

Salvia greggii 'Merlot' - Mexican sage
APPEARANCE: Compact flowering sage native to Texas and Mexico, with bright magenta pink flowers in summer-autumn.USE IN: Cottage style gardens, mixed beds and borders, wildlife gardens, pots and tubs.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden, in light free-draining soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Cut back after flowering, to encourage fresh growth and more flowers. Fertilise in spring using a slow release fertiliser, give an extra boost during the summer heat using eco-seaweed. Tolerant of overnight frost once established. Protect from hard frost and mulch in winter to keep soil warm.
